Baroque instruments

In baroque times musicians played „contemporary“ music on „contemporary“ instruments. For a better understanding of baroque violin making, I occupied myself with the historical perfomance practice.

In the recent years there has been a lot of research on Cremona and its violin making in the 17th and 18th centuries. A lot of knowledge is shared nowadays. There are some excellent publications like  »The Working Methods of Guarneri del Gesù and their Influence upon his stylistic Development«

To make my baroque instruments, I work in the Cremonese way to create instruments that could have been made in a Cremonese workshop of the late 17th century. The neck is nailed to the upper block, there is  a veneered fingerbord and tailpiece, and gut strings.

I have made baroque violins as well as baroque violas. For the German cellist Imke Frank I made a five string cello, a „violoncello piccolo“.
